Monterey Regional Airport Installs Your Vote is Your Voice
New Youth Art Gallery Exhibit for Art at the Airport Program

Press Release

MONTEREY, CA, September 17, 2024 – The Monterey Regional Airport (MRY) Art at the Airport program installs a new student art exhibit in the Youth Art Gallery with a timely exhibit “Your Vote is Your Voice,” featuring work created by students that participated in an art contest hosted by the League of Women Voters.

The League of Women Voters of Monterey County sponsored the Poster Art Contest that challenged high school artists who live in Monterey County to encourage citizens to register and vote during this election year. The posters display a wide range of creativity, cultural diversity and artistic talent. The contest inspired discussions about the power of voting and students realized how art can have a positive impact on their community.

“When we publicized the contest to schools and art programs, we had no idea there would be such an enthusiastic response from students throughout the county. We were thrilled to receive outstanding entries sent to us by students independently as well as through art teachers. Now we have a trove of resources to help us encourage voter participation” says Marianne Gawain, League of Women Voters.

“Once again, the airport showcases a great collaboration between an organization like The League of Women Voters, our local schools and other art programs. So cool that the young artists focused on such an important issue and used their artistic talent to encourage folks to vote,”  says Kathy Kopp, Youth Art Gallery Curator. This is a wonderful opportunity for young artists from our County to express their perspective on the voting process and encourage everyone, including the traveling public, to VOTE!

The exhibit will be available to view at the MRY terminal building until late November 2024.
