Public Scoping Meeting for Environmental Assessment (EA) for Proposed Airport Safety Enhancement Project

Monterey, CA (November 28, 2016) – Michael La Pier, Executive Director for the Monterey Regional Airport (Airport), announced today that a Public Scoping Meeting will be held for the Environmental Assessment (EA) that is currently being prepared to consider the potential environment impacts of the proposed Airport Safety Enhancement Project for Taxiway “A” Relocation and Associated Building Relocations (proposed project) at the Airport. The Scoping Meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Airport District Board Room on the second floor of the Airport Terminal, at 200 Fred Kane Drive, Monterey CA 93940. The meeting format is an informal open house and interested parties are invited to stop by to view maps and displays, communicate with Airport staff, and provide their written comments. Airport staff will be available to gather the public’s thoughts about what alternatives and environmental impacts should be studied in the environmental analysis.

The EA is being prepared pursuant to the requirements of Section 102(2)© of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969 (Public Law 91-190, Title 42 United States Code Sections 4321 et. seq.), as outlined in Title 40 Code of Federal Regulations Sections 1500- 1508 for the proposed project. The FAA will serve as the Lead Agency in the NEPA process.

Evaluation in the EA includes several components that will be phased over the next 10 years including:

  • General Aviation hangar relocation from the southeast to north of the airfield;
  • Potential property acquisition or easement;
  • Commercial passenger terminal complex and south side frontage road construction;
  • Airport rescue and firefighting (ARFF) building relocation;
  • Existing terminal and ARFF building demolition; and
  • Taxiway and ARFF building ft from Runway 10R-28L (including connector taxiways “G” and “J”).

Written comments can be provided at the scoping meeting or submitted to the physical address, email address, or website listed below. All written comments must be submitted by 5:00 p.m., December 20, 2016.
